sticky Re: SPROG II and Windows 10 - a workaround

Mar 28, 2017 For Windows 8, 8.1 or 10, temporarily disable the additional security measures (but read about Windows 10 below) Open Device Manager and then plug in your SPROG and connect it to the power supply Under 'Other Devices', update the drivers for SPROG DECODER PROGRAMMER check under 'Ports (COM & LPT)' for assigned com port number. Go into device manager and find the device. Click on 'update driver software' and select the option 'search automatically' (ie go to the web with Windows Update). In my case it downloaded and installed the drivers for both my Lenz devices - decoder programmer (with FTDI chip) and the LAN/USB (which has a different make of chip). Digitrax Big Book of DCC. #2911 I had nothing to do this morning so I figured I would try this process.😉 Dell Inspiron 3558 Win 10 1803 Build 17134 (x64) 8GB RAM Everything went smoothly except for one thing. The FTDI FT PROG install went fine. Ran FT_PROG and followed your instruction and re-programmed the SPROG II Device manager now showed the SPROG II as a USB Serial Port. This was all good and did exactly what was expected. Here is what I did not expect. In Device Manager the port description changed as expected from SPROG to generic USB port BUT the Com port changed from COM3 to COM5. I tried to set it back to COM3 but it was listed as in use. I rebooted just in case it was still holding on to the port from JMRI (Which was using COM3), Did not help, still showing in use. I then set up JMRI to use COM5 which worked as expected and JMRI/SPROG communicated as expected. Then in DV I again tried to set SPROG back to COM3 again and even though JMRI is not using COM3 it still showed in use. So bottom line the process worked, and JMRI is functioning, have no idea right now if a Win10 update will break it but we will have to wait and see. Did not notice this in the FT_PROG settings but is there a way to 'pre-select' the comport to be used so it does not change? If not you will probably need to make it very clear in your detailed set of instructions that the COM port may change and provide clear instructions as to how to set that. Let me know if you need any further information. On Sun, Dec 23, 2018 at 5:53 AM <andrew@...> wrote: The following applies ONLY to SPROG II. It does not apply to SPROG IIv3 or SPROG IIv4 |

My SPROG Does Not Respond To The Computer. What Do I Do?
- Under 'Other Devices', update the drivers for SPROG DECODER PROGRAMMER check under 'Ports (COM & LPT)' for assigned com port number When the SPROG is recognized by the computer, the system will attempt to install the appropriate device drivers automatically. However, specific drivers are needed for SPROG to function correctly,.
- Digital Check’s generic USB driver operates all CX30, TS240, TS500 and the BX7200 scanners (and some legacy models), on Windows 7, 8, and 10 (32- and 64-bit) operating systems. The ScanLite demo program is a utility that you can use to test your scanner without being connected to your bank’s online deposit software.
